TB elimination represents a crucial public health goal, which can be obtained by reducing the prevalence of individuals with latent TB infection, through a preventive therapeutic approach. By reducing the large pool of infected individuals, global TB incidence will be decreased and the target of TB elimination will be achieved by the year 2050, as advocated by the Millennium Development Goals and the Stop TB Partnership.In mid-2013, the European Respiratory Society (ERS), in association with the FP7 EU-funded TB-PAN-NET project, ran an unique course on TB elimination, entitled “TB elimination: a dream or reality?”, in Dubrovnik, Croatia.
