CORRESPONDENCEPremature Atrial Contraction as an Etiology for Cough
Section snippets
To the Editor:
Comprehensive contemporary reviews1 of cough do not include cardiac arrhythmia as a potential cause of unexplained cough, although cough itself has been described as a cause for tachyarrhythmia.23 I have encountered three patients recently with a clinical history of cough immediately following a palpitation. During echocardiography, these patients were seen to have a single premature atrial contraction (PAC) prior to a cough, which reproduced their symptoms. The patients' histories all include

Chronic cough in the elderly
2019, Pulmonary Pharmacology and TherapeuticsCitation Excerpt :However, further considerations are warranted for clinical heterogeneity for chronic cough in the elderly, including lung parenchymal diseases, reflux, ACEi medication or other comorbidities (Fig. 3). Although rare, cardiac conditions such as left heart failure, endocarditis and cardiac arrhythmia are reported to be causes of chronic cough [25–28]. Drugs other than ACEi, such as topiramate, methotrexate, or mycophenolate mofetil, might be also associated with cough [29–32].

2009, ChestCitation Excerpt :First, we showed that chronic cough may be related to frequent PVCs. Although some case reports14–17 have suggested such an association, to our knowledge no prospective study on the incidence of chronic cough in patients with idiopathic PVC and its response to antiarrhythmic therapy has been conducted. We putatively diagnosed PVC-associated cough in 5% of patients with idiopathic PVC.
